Space X was planned to conduct a test flight of it's prototype named as starship SN8 with the highest altitude of 12.5 km. It is all new next gen space vehicle. This vehicle was scheduled to launch from South Texas facility of space x's. However, raptor engines on starship SN8 aborts the take-off on its own before 1.3 seconds prior to take-off.
The reason why starship SN8 aborts the liftoff is, SN8 detected something wrong with it's one or more of it's 3 raptor engines. So, it initiated automatic abort.
The purpose of starship is for earth- lunar transport, mars colonization, multiplanetary transport, reusable space tourism launch system.
Space X also have backup plan for take-off, scheduled dec-9 at 5.45 pm EST( 2245 GMT ) near South Texas village of Boco Chico. SN8 will also attempt landing flip manoeuvre, which is first ever attempt for it's size.
What happened after the successful take-off on it's next attempt?
Space X's SN8 made a successful take-off on it's next attempt, but it is just exploded during the landing. 
The main goal is to reach highest altitude of 12.5 km into the sky and perform some complex manoeuvre, including "belly flop" and to land safely. Everything was so perfect, except landing. It just came too fast for landing, exactly at marked position and exploded after it's successful 6 minutes and 42 seconds of flight time.
What is the reason for the explosion?
During the landing burn " fuel header tank " pressure was low causing the touchdown velocity to high.
Do you think it's flop?
No, definitely not. It's just prototype of it's kind. Elon musk definitely know anything can happen, they had all the data they wanted for their next take-off and landing.
